PLEASE KEEP DROPPING IN
October 26, 2017
I am still here but do fewer walks in the winter months. Not that I hibernate - oh no. There is a chance to see several guides working together in late November and I am going to put up some more lunchtime walks soon. Until then, have fun and keep warm....
Lunchtime Walks - Keeping Fit in Islington...
September 28, 2017
... without any of that "exertion" malarkey.
Instead, feed your brain and stretch your legs taking a brisk 45 minute walk exploring the area around your office.
I took one of these, "Writers and Revolutionaries", this afternoon with some very nice people from Cancer Research.
Plesae come along - details of the walks ar...
Freebie and charity walk in October.
September 28, 2017
A bit of variety for Autumn.
There will be chances to explore Canonbury (a rather nice, leafy part of Islington) on 7th and Walthamstow Village on 15th October.
The first is a free walk, part of a promotion London guides offer every year so you can try before you buy.
The second is a fundr...
Thanks for the commissions...
August 10, 2017
... please don't be shy if you'd like to book a tour yourself.
I have done a few public tours this summer, but am also getting quite a few private commissions. There will be more walks coming via Eventbrite and Footprints of London, but please do get in touch if there's an angle on London you'd like to explore. The research ...
LOOKING FOR WATER
June 28, 2017
- BUT (HOPEFULLY) NOT FROM THE SKY.
7pm, Farringdon Station (main entrance) - 29 June. I'll be looking at how water defined Clerkenwell, even though its presence is pretty well concealed now.
More details here.
Be there or be square......
TIP FOR THE HEAT
June 22, 2017
Visit an old part of London
Modern life is hectic and none of us needs to be chasing round in hot, sweaty, diesel-flavoured air. Step back in time and swap bustling for perambulation.
Think about it: old buildings (or the ones that survived, anyway) have big airy rooms, are made of nice cool stone ...
SEWAGE, PLAGUE, FIRE AND A CEMETERY...
June 8, 2017
... NO-ONE TELLS ME HOW TO PARTY
I have been in the happy situation of being commissioned to do a few private tours and talks over the last month or so, hence radio silence.
But now I am venturing out into the free market with a few tours. Apart from my staple ones at Highgate Cemetery and Somerset Hous...
SPRING IS SPRUNG, THE GRASS IS RIZ...
March 27, 2017
... I WONDER WHERE THE TOUR GUIDE IS?
Emerging from his hibernation, that's where. Happy Spring!
I am going to be posting various walks over the next few days, to tempt and titillate. Hope you find one (or ideally more than one) to suits your taste.
See you soon......
EXPLORING CLERKENWELL FOR CHARITY
December 14, 2016
Christmas in Clerkenwell
I have been taking a short break from leading walks, but on 21st I am doing a tour of Clerkenwell with fellow guide Denise. All proceeds (donations rather than a straight fee) go to the homeless charity Shelter. Please check it out under "The Walks"....
MY PIECE IN THE CLERKENWELL POST
November 26, 2016
Commemorating a little-known radical event of 1816.
As part of the Clerkenwell & Islington Guides' Association I was approached to write a piece on the Spa Fields Riots, a couple of public meetings culminating in an attempt to seize control of the government. This is online, here:
